Our objective is to prevent work-related injury and ill health by identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing proportionate controls. Scope and Responsibilities

Responsibility for implementing this policy rests with senior management and site supervisors, while every member of staff and sub-contractor is required to co-operate and follow safe systems of work. All personnel must report hazards, near misses and incidents without delay.

Risk Assessment and Safe Systems

We perform documented risk assessments for routine tasks such as turfing, hedge trimming, tree works, pesticide application and use of powered equipment. Assessments identify controls, safe work sequences and necessary protective measures. Brockley gardeners are instructed to follow these assessments at all times.

Control measures include task-specific method statements, exclusion zones, signage and supervision where necessary. Mechanical guards, two-person lifting procedures and traffic management around machinery are enforced. Where risks cannot be eliminated, we require protective equipment and administrative controls.

Manual handling is managed through task design, mechanical aids and team lifting where appropriate. Staff are trained in safe lifting techniques and encouraged to seek assistance for awkward or heavy loads to prevent musculoskeletal injury.

Monitoring, auditing and continual improvement are central to our approach. Routine site inspections, toolbox talks and formal audits assess compliance with this policy. Findings result in action plans, time-bound corrective measures and report-back to senior management.

Policy Review and Communication

This policy is reviewed at least annually or following significant change, incident or legislative update. Changes are communicated to all staff and contractors through briefings, written updates and training sessions to ensure everyone understands their responsibilities.
